Details
of the changes in V2
Two enhancements have been added to
the ENGDAT message, which is used extensively throughout the European
automotive industry for
transferring CAD/PDM files between business partners. These are:
1. Extension of the e-mail address from 35
characters to 70 characters in all segments where e-mail addresses
are defined.
This change was
necessary, because in some cases e-mail addresses have more
then 35 characters and therefore it was not always possible to
use
this segment properly.
2. Personal address code has been added into the Sender (SDE)
and Receiver (RDE) segments. The address code in the segment
allows the
routing of the engineering files to a specific person and department
within a company.
This additional field was necessary
to avoid different cases of using fields for routing information
like UNB segment, e-mail addresses,
or some characters in the virtual file name. The new field
standardises all the different used cases for routing incoming
and outgoing
data packages and simplifies data exchange management software
and administration.
Notes for Software and Service Providers
The recommended implementation timetable for
ENGDAT is as follows:
• ENGDAT V2 will run in parallel with V1 for a limited period
of time.
• All data should be generated with V2 by the end of 2002.
• Reading of data can continue with V1 up to the end of 2003.
Thereafter V1 will not be supported
