Odette
has just published the Joint Automotive Industry (JAI) Global DELJIT
EDI message. This message, which completes* a set of global 'order
to payment' messages, was developed in co-operation with Odette's
sister organisations in US (AIAG) and Japan (JAMA/JAPIA) and is
the automotive industry subset of the more general EDIFACT DELJIT
message.
The JAI Global DELJIT message is sent from the customer
to the supplier and can be used in a number of different JIT delivery
scenarios including the normal call-off, kanban and sequenced delivery
processes commonly used in Europe and US through to the Sikyu process
used in Japan.
By adopting the Global DELJIT message companies
in Europe are able to use the same delivery instruction message
to communicate with their trading partners in Europe and with their
partners in the other two main automotive regions of the world,
making implementation of 100% electronic communication much more
achievable.
The other messages in the set of JAI 'Order to Payment'
Global Messages
are:

- Global DELFOR (DELivery FORecast)
- sent from the customer to the supplier to provide forecasts
of delivery requirements thereby allowing the supplier to plan
production and their own material procurement.
- Global DESADV (DESpatch ADVice) - sent from the
supplier to the customer provide information about a shipment
of parts that is just leaving the supplier allowing the customer
to plan production and to make arrangements for a rapid automated
reception of the shipment and its contents.
- Global RECADV (RECeiving ADVice)- sent from the
customer to the supplier to notify the reception of a shipment.
- Global INVOIC (INVOICe) - this message can be
sent from supplier to customer to support the traditional invoicing
process or from customer to supplier in the 'self-billing' process
which is frequently used in the global automotive industry.
- Global REMADV (REMittance ADVice) - sent from
the customer to the supplier to inform of a payment being made
to the supplier - usually linked to the prior delivery of goods.
The addition of the GlobalDELJIT to the set means
that automotive companies in Europe are now able to support the
main 'order to payment' processes using the same EDI messages with
their trading partners across the world.

* In the automotive world needs are continually changing
and there is now a demand to add a Global Purchase Order message
to the 'order to payment' set.
