Odette Sets Direction for EUDR DDS Data Exchange
08 Jun 2026
A recent meeting of the Odette Technology Group (TG) focused on how Due Diligence Statement (DDS) information can be shared consistently between supplier and customer while minimising disruption to existing business processes.
Under EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), companies placing relevant goods on the EU market must submit a DDS to the EU Information System and ensure that the corresponding reference number is passed downstream.
To support efficient data exchange, the group agreed that for relevant products the supplier responsible for submitting a DDS should include the resulting DDS reference number in the Despatch Advice message (ASN) at line-item level. This approach builds on existing logistics processes and provides a straightforward mechanism for suppliers to transmit the required information without introducing additional messaging requirements.
The Group also noted that recent EUDR simplification measures have reduced the administrative burden on downstream companies. Responsibility for determining EUDR applicability and providing accurate DDS references remains with the upstream operator, while the first downstream customer should normally just receive and store the DDS reference, rather than needing to independently assess whether EUDR requirements apply.
The challenge of mixed shipments, where identical part number references may have different DDS requirements depending on their origin, was also addressed. The agreed approach is to use separate line items in the Despatch Advice to distinguish these cases.
Overall, the meeting established a pragmatic implementation approach that aligns with existing automotive supply chain processes while supporting compliance with EUDR requirements. The focus now shifts to finalising message standards and ensuring a consistent implementation between suppliers and customers ahead of the December 2026 deadline.
