OFTP2: Facing up to the cybersecurity challenge while expanding globally

08 Jun 2026

Strengthening Security and Interoperability

The OFTP2 specifications have been enhanced to introduce additional mandatory cipher suites and stronger cryptographic requirements, further enhancing the security of OFTP2 communications.

To support these changes, new OFTP2 interoperability test cases have been approved to help ensure consistent implementation across different OFTP2 solutions and verify support for modern encryption and authentication mechanisms.

OFTP2 solution providers are currently participating in a new mandatory interoperability test cycle covering all approved software. The results of this test round are expected during the summer and will provide further assurance that OFTP2 partners can continue to exchange data securely and reliably across heterogeneous environments.

Companies are encouraged to ensure their OFTP2 software remains up to date in order to benefit from the latest security and interoperability improvements.

Updated Cryptographic Requirements

In line with evolving cybersecurity guidance, the OFTP2 specifications are also increasing the minimum certificate key length requirement to 3072 bits. This change aligns with recommendations from recognised cybersecurity and security standards authorities and strengthens cryptographic protection while maintaining compatibility with existing OFTP2 environments.

This is the only change introduced to OFTP2 certificate specifications. All other Certificate Requirements for OFTP2 Data Exchange remain unchanged, including certificate lifetimes and dual authentication mechanisms.

Looking further ahead, Odette is working with automotive and IT security experts to evaluate future cryptographic technologies, including preparations for the adoption of Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC).

OFTP2 Ecosystem Continues to Expand

The OFTP2 provider community continues to grow internationally with the addition of Beijing Sinowintop, a leading technology provider in China.

The arrival of a new OFTP2 solution provider further strengthens the presence of OFTP2 in one of the world's most dynamic automotive markets and demonstrates the continued relevance of secure point-to-point communication for business-critical data exchange.

Beijing Sinowintop joins our longstanding partner in China, CEDEX, further supporting companies operating in the region.
